1st June – Quaker Walk : A Family Walk in the Footsteps of Leominster’s Orphans

Transport yourself back to Victorian times. You have been orphaned but have the chance to start a new life in the countryside, away from the crowded city.  Led by Helen Bowden, director of Orphans Press, and Cllr Felicity Norman, this walk tells the story of Leominster’s orphans.

Back in 1873, local quaker Henry Stanley Newman founded a home for orphans in town. He also set up Orphans’ Printing Press – now celebrating its 150th year – to provide an income for the home and upskill the boys in his care.

Discover these local landmarks and hear about the lives of the orphans in Leominster, including the outings organised by Henry Stanley Newman to give them the chance to experience nature.
